The watercolor The Twittering Machine, painted in 1922, shows, as in many other works by Paul Klee, the mixture of biology and machinery, which leaves plenty of room for interpretation. In 1933 the painting was declared 'degenerate art' by Adolf Hitler. Today it hangs in the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
