The Vitruvian Man (in Latin "homo vitruvianus") is a representation of man according to the idealised proportions formulated by the ancient architect and engineer Vitruv(ius). The most famous example is a 34.4 cm × 24.5 cm drawing by Leonardo da Vinci, made around 1490. It is a sketch with notes from one of his diaries showing a man with outstretched extremities in two superimposed positions.
