Georges Seurat - The Eiffel Tower

This 1889 oil painting on wood was painted the same year the Eiffel Tower was built as the entrance to the World's Fair. Seurat spent a lot of time preparing sketches of the Paris Tower before finishing the painting in his studio.

The most famous work of art

A Sunday afternoon on the island of La Grande Jatte (French: Un dimanche après-midi à l'Île de la GrandeJatte) was painted in the pointillist technique in 1884 and is Seurat's most famous work. Seurat's composition shows a line of Parisians on the banks of the Seine.
